Seu Bock wants Chong Wei prepared to face anyone in 2012 London Olympics – Badminton News
National Singles coach Tey Seu Bock has advised Malaysian ace Lee Chong Wei to stay focused and ready to face any world class shuttler in London Olympics, set to be staged from July 27, 2012.
World Number one shuttler Chong Wei is biggest hope of country for an Olympic medal in Men’s Singles event but he will have to surpass tough contenders especially nemesis from China.
The badminton king will be up against top Chinese shuttlers defending Champion Lin Dan and World Number three Chen Long. If their compatriot Chen Jin also makes into mega event that will be a huge trial for Chong Wei to land at the podium in presence of
these maestros.
However, his coach Seu Bock believes it will not affect his prospects in London event and said Chong Wei is expected to meet the Chinese in last stages so he should be more concerned about opening rounds of the event.
Seu Bock said, "Chong Wei only has to worry about the China players in the semi-final stage or final but he would rather focus on the earlier rounds first."
World Number five Chen Jin is in Olympic qualification period and he must end this phase with fourth position in world rankings otherwise only top two players of China will be participating in coming edition of the Olympics.
Chen Jin has virtually qualified after winning three consecutive titles, Swiss Open, Australian Open and Badminton Asia Championships and now World Number four Peter Gade can only stop him by winning the upcoming India Open.
National Coach Seu Bock is aware of the fact that no one can put a stop to Chinese expedition in qualification race but he was satisfied that Chong Wei will enter in London event as top seed player to avoid an early clash with archrival Lin Dan.
He said, "Our main aim is to make sure Chong Wei avoids Lin Dan until the final and that has been achieved. No matter what happens in the India Open, Chong Wei as the top ranked player, will be seeded in the same order in London."
Seu Bock also added that Chong Wei is sweating hard in the nets so presence of other big guns like Chen Jin, Peter Gade, Taufik Hidayat and Hyun Il will not make a major impact in the mega event and Malaysian maestro will escort his country to glory.
