Seve Benson shares the second spot after round one of the Kazakhstan Open
Seve Benson carded a seven-under par 65 in the opening round of the Kazakhstan Open, to share the second spot on the leaderboard, on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
The 2012 Barclays Kenya Open champion got off to a confident start, as he recorded birdies on each of the first two holes that he played. On the fifth hole, he stumbled and conceded a bogey five.
Yet, it did not stop him from playing good shots at the Zhailjau Golf Resort, as the very next hole witnessed him drain the ball for an amazing eagle.
A couple of holes later, he once again astounded the field by posting another eagle on his scorecard. On the back nine of the course, he added another three shots while dropping one, and settled two strokes behind the leader Peter Uihlein.
Overall, it was a stunning display of the game by the three-time Challenge Tour champion. At times, he struggled on the course. However, he did not let his bad shots ruin his complete round and bounced back strongly whenever needed.
“I managed to keep the momentum going out there when I could have maybe lost a little bit,” said the 25-year-old. “I got up and down when I needed to and I felt like I putted well today but other than that it wasn’t a lot different from previous weeks to be honest.
“I've been working really hard on my game, on the mental side as well as the playing side and if it happens it happens this week, but I'm just going to persevere and see if I can get to where I want to get to,” he added.
In the meantime, Lasse Jensen also joined him on the leaderboard, after posting a bogey-free round of 65.
Later in the evening, the Dane revealed that he took a huge risk of changing his putting grip, after he received an advice from his countryman Mark Haastrup.
However, the risk paid him off in the end, as he putted beautifully throughout the opening round.
Scott Henry, Alexander Levy and Scott Pinckney shared the next position after registering rounds of a six-under par 66.
