Seven Barcelona players included in the Ballon d’Or shortlist – La Liga

Seven players from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 have been included in the 2011 FIFA Ballon d’Or shortlist. The shortlist consists of a total of 23 players who all have the chance to be voted as the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or.
The Ballon d’Or is a highly respected award in the footballing world, and the winner is considered the best player in regard with his performance in the previous season. The award is given annually in a ceremony staged by FIFA.
The coveted award is awarded primary based on the votes of a number of veterans including captains and coaches of international teams within FIFA. Journalists from around the world and international media representatives selected by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 Football also
take part in the voting.
The fact that seven players, out of a total of 23, are from one team is something that has rarely happened in the history of this esteemed award.
The seven La Blaugrana players included in the coveted shortlist are Eric Abidal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 and Xavi. Cesc Fabregas has also been included in the shortlist, but he cannot be accredited with the award
as a Barcelona player as he was with English side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 last season.
Lionel Messi, a superstar in the Catalan side, is widely considered as the favourite to win this year’s FIFA Ballon d’Or. He was the winner of the award last season and the season before. If he manages to clinch the award again, it will be his third consecutive
award.
Reports suggest that the fact that seven Barca players are included in the short list is an indication of the domination the Champions League title holders have over European football at the moment.
Although there are a few who consider the Spanish Champions’ dominance arguable, it is abundantly noticeable that Spanish football is on the rise. This can be established by the fact that the team with the second highest number of shortlisted players is
Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have five of their own stars included in the shortlist. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 are the Madrid players included in the shortlist.
