Seven of the Top-10 WTA players to feature in the Apia International
Sydney 2013 – Tennis News
World number four, Agnieszka Radwanska, headlines the draw at the Apia  International Sydney that will be hosted at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from 6-12 January, 2013. She will be the top seed contender in the event
that has lined up all Top-10 stars except the Top-3 contestants.
However, it is sad to witness that the Defending Champion, Victoria Azarenka, is not going to be the part of the 32-players draw. Other two players that will be missed are the reigning French Open Champion, Maria Sharapova, and
the 15-time Grand Slam Champion, Serena Williams.
Nevertheless, it will be a marvellous event especially for the Women Tennis Association that will feature some of the most famous athletes prior to the start of the first Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open. Each
player will understand the depth of their game and know their shortcomings before they will land at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
Angelique Kerber, the German number one, will be the second favourite to clinch the title at Sydney. She will be accompanied by the sixth ranked Sara Errani, the top ranked Chinese professional Li Na and the member of the squad
which recently crowned Federation Cup Champion, Petra Kvitova.
The home crowd expectations will be carried by the ninth ranked Aussie spearhead, Samantha Stosur. Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, will also be amongst the elite squad of Sydney and possible one of the strongest contenders
to trounce the top seeded players.
Other players will include the Russian duo of Nadia Petrova and Maria Kirilenko who were one of the strongest contestants on each tour after the Italian team of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci. They will participate in the singles
category.
Slovak tennis ace, Dominika Cibulkova, will also be a part of the event. Other players who will be a part of tournament include the likes of Roberta Vinci, Lucie Safarova, Julia Goerges, Ekaterina Makarova, Varvara Lepchenko, Jelena
Jankovic, Yanina Wickmayer, Jie Zheng, Tamira Paszek and Urszula Radwanska.
Rest of the squad will be completed through successful qualifier and wildcard entries that will be announced in the upcoming days.
