Seven players from Super Leagues Crusaders suspended after code of discipline breaches
Seven of the Crusaders’ squad members faced suspension on account of going against the disciplinary rules of the professional Wrexham-based Rugby League club. However, the reason for the disciplinary action has not been revealed.
According to Rod Findlay, the chief executive of the Crusaders, details regarding this disciplinary action will not be shared with public but it has been verified that the “club’s code was breached”. Nonetheless this will register as a source of embarrassment for both the club and its fans.
Findlay succeeded as the chief executive of the Super League club Crusaders from being their club lawyer in December 2010. He was formerly served as both Chief Executive Officer and Chairman for the North East’s professional Rugby League. On his recruitment to the Crusaders, he stated, "My aim is to bring stability to the club and help Crusaders secure their Super League Licence in 2012."
With this disciplinary action taken against Crusaders, Gil Dudson, Jason Chan, Richard Moore, Jordan Tansey, Peter Lupton, Lloyd White and Jarrod Sammut have all been ousted from being part of the encounter against Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR), on Saturday, July 9. Amongst these players, Dudson previously played for the Championship Club under dual registration.
Despite losing out on a huge chunk of squad members just ahead of the match against Hull KR, the team is still focused on their performance, according to Findlay. However, it does not rule out the fact that this is going to raise difficulties in playing a good game against Hulls KR. Iestyn Harris, the coach of the Crusaders since November 2010, is determined to make up for this unforeseen loss ahead the forthcoming clash with the Rovers.
This news has coincided with the announcement of the team taking Keith Senior on board on a two-year contract from next season. The new recruits include; Shannan McPherson, Michael Witt and Rhys Hanbury, where McPherson formerly assumed a forwards spot for South Sydney and the latter two were the half-backs for Australia. McPherson’s contract will expire by the end of next year.
With new players at hand, the club is still not confident about the renewal of their Super League licence, especially after their miserable performances in the league.
The suspended squad players including Chan, Moore, Tansey, Sammut were part of the squad in their latest clash against Huddersfield on Sunday, July 3, where they managed to bag 40-12 win. However, this has raised Tansey’s count of breaches against club code of conduct to three in less than a year’s time.
With such major eliminations prior to the clash against Rovers, the Crusaders are still totally focused on winning their game on Saturday.
