Seven time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi longing for victory – MotoGP news
The 6 times MotoGP World Champion, Valentino Rossi, having spent 2 consecutive seasons without a single win, now seems to be developing a craving for victory.
Giving an interview to Dainese Magazine, on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, spoke about his appetite for victory.
“For me it's the taste of the victory,” said Rossi. “It's something different from all other things. It's like a drug. This is the main reason for racing. Unfortunately, it's very short-lived – only three or four hours – the next day, you need more. It never
stops.”
It is an astonishing fact that Rossi has a total of 79 Grand Prix victories to his name and not even 1 victory came in the last two years. It was 2 years ago racing in the 2010 Malaysian Gran Prix at the Sepang International Circuit that Rossi had won a
Grand Prix. Rossi’s downfall in his MotoGP career had started when he had decided to make the switch from Yamaha to Ducati in the 2011 season.
Rossi finished 7th in 2011 and 6th in 2012, the two worst standings for Rossi in his 10 years MotoGP career. In the 2013 season, Rossi will be riding a Yamaha – a decision that he should have made a lot earlier.
In his interview on Wednesday, Rossi also commented on the changing aspects of life in the Grand Prix world.
“In the last few years, the sport has become too serious and so have the riders. In the past, it was more just about bravery but now everybody is more serious and very athletic. They diet and train a lot and don't have a normal life. I think it's important
to be able to have fun too!” said the 33-year-old Italian MotoGP star.
For Valentino Rossi, the 2013 season will be quite similar to starting from scratch. Rossi will have to shed the pall that had been cast on his career for the last two years, and be the rider that he used to be.
