Peng/ Zheng thrash Sanchez/ Zakopalova in 2nd round – China Open 2011
Seventh seeded Shuai Peng with Jie Zheng teamed against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez with Klara Zakopalova in the second round of the China Open 2011. The teams duelled on outdoor hard courts of the National Tennis Center in Beijing,
China. The seventh seeded Chinese duo needed just sixty two minutes to get rid of Sanchez/ Zakopalova in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 on the 4th of October 2011.
First to kick off the opening round was the seventh seeded Chinese pair, who successfully managed to hold their serve in the initial round. Following in their footsteps was Sanchez/ Zakopalova, who too held their first serve and
the scoreboard rolled to 1-1. As the two again held serve in the following two games the score tied at 2-2.
With so much experience under the belt the seventh seeded pair utilized the serve-break-serve technique to reel off three games over the Spanish Sanchez and Czech Zakopalova. Peng/ Zheng not only held serve in the third and fifth
game but also broke the Spanish/ Czech duo in the fourth game and the scoreboard rotated at 5-2.
They were now only a game away from clogging the opening set but it was Sanchez/ Zakopalova’s turn to serve and as they served they double faulted on their second serve and endorsed the set point to their adversaries. In doing
so, the Chinese pair was ecstatic as they had restricted their opponents to just two games and were one up in the match.
The crowd cheered the home team (Peng/ Zheng) throughout the set and as they opened the second round of the match, they accomplished to hold serve for their first service game and subsequently so did the Espanola/ Czech. As both
the teams had effectively managed to win on their own serves, they placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1.
However, during the third game Peng/ Zheng held serve and then in the fourth went on to capitalize on an early from their opponents and were now leading in the second set with a 3-1. They further increased their lead to 4-1 as
they again won on their alternate serve. However, in the following two games Sanchez/ Zakopalova made a return by bagging a game on their own serve and then bagging another on their opponents’ serve. As they capitalized on a breakpoint they reduced the deficit
to 3-4.
If only Sanchez/ Zakopalova had won a game on their serve in the eighth game, they could’ve been able to completely reduce the deficit. However, that is not what happened, instead. Peng/ Zheng were able to break their adversaries
and sealed their victory of the set and the match.
Next up for the seventh seeded Chinese team are third seeded Gisela Dulko with Flavia Pennetta.
