Question:

Several times when getting in or out of my vehicle whatever I touch zaps me like static electricity-why?

I get out of my 1999 GMC Jimmy for example and touch somebody and zap-like the end of my fingertip gets zapped and a snapping sound. What causes this and how do I prevent?

  1. When you're driving or riding static builds up do to the movement of you in your seat, your clothes, and the charge isn't discharged since you aren't doing anything at the time.  When you go to get out of the car you tend to touch the metal frame and this is a contact that releases the spark and you get zapped.

    Don't touch the metal when you get out of the car or use your keys to touch the metal doorframe to get rid of the static.
