Several top-notch players confirmed for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
A number of top-notch players have confirmed their participation in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, making the field even more interesting and tougher. The event will be played at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana.
A total of nine PGA Tour winners of the 2012 golf season, along with 12 major winners, have been added to the field of the event this year.
Among the major winners, two of them are reigning champions that include the Masters Champion Bubba Watson and the PGA Champion Keegan Bradley.
"These players make our already strong field even deeper," said Steve Worthy, CEO of the Fore! Kids Foundation, producer of the tournament.
"Our field is now a Grand Slam of winners of the Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. In fact, we have the last two major winners, Masters Champion Bubba Watson and 2011 PGA Champion Keegan Bradley," he added.
Ben Curtis, the winner of last week’s Valero Texas Open, will tee off for the fifth time this year in an official PGA tour event.
He is currently enjoying his form, as he has recorded a total of two top-25 finishes so far, including his victory.
In addition to that, he also tied for the first position in the Tavistock Cup, which is an unofficial PGA Tour event.
His victory in the Texas Open ended his six-year winning drought on the PGA Tour. Therefore, he is currently rated as one of the favourites to record a win in the Zurich Classic.
Brandt Snedeker, who recorded a stunning win in the Farmers Insurance Open in January this year, is also among the PGA Tour winners appearing in the event.
Snedeker had a seven-stroke deficit against Kyle Stanley while entering into the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open.
Stanley faltered in the final round and Snedeker took complete advantage of the situation and surged to the top of the leaderboard with a score of five-under par 67.
Carl Pettersson won the RBC Heritage with a five-stroke margin over Zach Johnson. He was impressive throughout the tournament and the huge-margin victory made him another strong contender at the TPC Louisiana.
The tournament is offering a $6.4 million purse for the players coming to compete against each other with $1,152,000 share for the winner.
