Hello All. I have severe lifelong problems with Algebra. I am 39 years old and still haven't been able to get a college degree because of the basic math requirement. I am currently taking my 6th attempt at basic college Math in night school. I also work with a professional tutor 2 hrs a week. I appear to be stuck at a middle school level of math capability. I also have extreme diffucilty remembering numbers. I have tested above average in intelligence tests. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to identify possible Dyscalculia? I have had no luck finding anyone who tests for this. I fear I will spend my life as an "uneducated" person because of the math roadblock. There are few degrees today that don't require some kind of basic math. I am hugely frustrated that I have extensive knowlege of everything under the sun yet cannot understand simple high school algebra. Has anyone else run into this kind of thing?

  1. You need a psychoeducational exam by a school/collage, a school or clinical psychologist. There are several differet matematical assessment programs they can run to pin point the troubled area, but it does sound like discalcula

  2. Yep pretty much. I am a Dyslexia and Dyspraxia suffrer. I have struggled with Maths all my life. I have always found algebra difficult as well. Have you ever tried Kumon maths? It is  japanesse system of teaching maths. It has been quite effective. They start you of wiht the simplest of Maths and get you to do it over and over until you get then you are moved on to the next level. I was failing at maths and yet I ended up with a B at GCSE(an British exam if you are wondering). It might work for you. If you don't try you don't know.
