  1. It means You stay OFF the Phone; make SURE You know where your flashlights are- & keep a "Weather Eye"- out the window in the direction the storm is approaching from... If you see any pieces of Houses flying through the Air- it might be a GOOD time to consider heading for the Basement!  (Where You should repeat to yourself THREE times; "There's NO place like Home, -There's NO place like... ... )    :)

  2. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning mean a storm is detected by the National Weather Service radar that is capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, heavy downpours, and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. Stay indoors until the storm has passed. If you are caught in an open area of land, never go under a tree. Trees are capable of being shocked by lightning and could cause you to be hurt, or electrocuted. In an open area without near shelter, find a ditch, or put yourself in the fetal position, and cover your head. Inside a house, pull any electronics, and don't take a shower or be on a phone with a chord, since you could get electrocuted, or they could blow. Stay safe and do not go outside until the storm has passed.

  3. Technically, a severe storm warning is issued when a storm is, or has been deemed capable of, producing wind gusts in excess of 58 mph and/or hail at least 3/4 inch in diameter.  The amount of lightning is not a determining factor in a warning.  You don't necessarily need to hide in a basement, but it is advisable to stay away from windows due to the potential of wind and hail.
