Malaga boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Pellegrini, is convinced that his team’s opponents, Sevilla, are real contenders for a spot in the Champions League.
Pellegrini believes Sevilla are in direct contention with his side for the much coveted fourth spot. The two teams will face off tonight at the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramon-c30533 Sanchez Pizjuan and the Malaga boss believes the Andalusians cannot be taken lightly.
The Sevilla boss is fully aware that the Andalusians are tough opponents especially when they are playing at home. Therefore, he urged his players not to take anything for granted tonight.
“One cannot be aware of the precedents, and cannot forget they’re playing at home with a tough ground behind them,” stated the former Villarreal trainer in a media briefing earlier.
The former Villarreal boss commented on the squad of his opponents and said that they have some key players that can change the outcome of any game, i.e. if you give them space and time.
He also added that Sevilla are directly challenging Malaga for the much coveted fourth spot for the Champions League.
“Sevilla are a direct rival, and have players that can unbalance the game if you give them space and time.”
The 59-year-old was reminded of his team’s 2-1 loss in the same ground on the first day of last season in La Liga. The tactician simply stated that it was their first match of the Primera Division.
The Chilean also stated that they had many new players coming in and the fact that a lot of issues existed back then.
Moreover, Pellegrini mentioned that they had to improve back then and now they have finally done it.
“It was the first game of the championship; we had many new players and played a bad game defensively. The image of the team was not good then, we walked out knowing we had to improve, and did in the following days.”
Malaga are currently occupying the last spot for the Champions League qualifications. They are sitting on the fourth spot and six points ahead of Sevilla who are in the bottom-half of the table.
