Sewing- fraying edges??

after you sew a piece of fabric on something, how can you keep the edges from fraying?

  1. You can also serge them if you have a serger. Usually I will serge the edges and then depending on what I am using it for I will sew add a boarder or turn the edge in and stitch.  


  2. any zig-zag st should work. You can also buy a liquid called fray-check at any fabric store.

  3. If you're using this fabric as a patch. I would use pinking shears, or use a satin stitch.

    If you're sewing colthing, I use  a serger. You can also use fray stop they sell this @ wal-mart In the fabric / craft dept.


  4. The best way would be to turn over the edge before you sew it on, or some kind of rolled hem.  You could also just make a row or 2 or tight stitches slightly in/above from the edge where it may be beginning to fray.  As a last resort, if it's not something that's going to be washed a lot, you could put some clear glue or nail polish on the edge to make it stick together.

  5. Do a wide Zig - Zag stitch over the edge of the seam or fabric ;)))
