Sewing machine problems???

I need help. I just got a sewing machine (but no instruction book to help). I don't know how to sew at all, I'm just trying to learn. But I can't get it to stitch and don't have the slightest idea what the problem is (I'm sure its me! lol)

I know I have it threaded right but when I try and start to stitch it doesn't actually stitch anything, I just end up with a big bunch of the top thread underneath the fabric and no ideas what to do. PLEASE HELP ME!! :-)

  1. You amy ahve threaded the top correctly but did u put thread in the bottom, just under the needle there whould be a panel that slides open at the base since there are two threads that go into stitching. unless u have a loose chain stitching type of machine, which then i would tell you get a more worthwhile sewing machine because those are mainly for learning children due to its simplicity and safety

  2. Okay, so this is embarassing, but when I started sewing I didn't know that there was a lever to lower the presser foot.  (the foot was kind of not working correctly, and it was REALLY low anyway) That made my thread do this constantly.  If you dont hold the threads toward the back when you start, the threads get tangled...  I don't know much about sewing machines, but I have had my share of problems with them...  Good luck

  3. Okay, a few ideas to try....sometimes the top thread will jump out of the take up lever, so try re-threading the top thread again. Also, all machines have only one certain way to insert the needle. You will notice that there is a flat side to the top shank of the needle. On some machines, that flat side goes to the back, or to the side. You may need to experiment with that. If these ideas don't work, it is hard to say unless I could be right there to see it and help you. Good luck!

  4. Here is a link to help.

  5. It's the bobbin. I know you think it isn't, but it is. You haven't got the thread pulled all the way down through the tiny little slot, or you haven't got the bobbin case firmly snapped into place.

You need someone to sit WITH you the first time you use the machine. It's just going to keep messing up from one step to the next.
