Sewing machines--are bobbin cases the same size for every machine?

I am not sure why everyone is answering about BOBBINS when I asked about BOBBIN CASES. They are different. A bobbin is a spool that holds thread for the bottom stitch on a machine. The bobbin case is the metal casing in which the bobbin sits, which is then placed in the underside of the sewing machine. If you need this explanation, then you should not be answering this question.

It isn't helpful to just provide facts that you may know, if it doesn't answer the specific question that is asked. It is a big problem on Yahoo! Answers.

Bobbins come in two different types (that I know of) and are not interchangeable, so it's only logical that the cases are different too.

If you are talking about the bobbin, I think there are different types, and some different sizes. I've seen one that is oval. Also, some are smooth metal, some have holes in the side, and some are plastic.

Bobbin cases can vary  - according to the make and age of the machine.

no... depends on brand and age... i have a bernina, which will not interchange with my g'ma's old machine nor my mom's new one... know your brand when you go into fabric store, and approx age of your machine. they will have no problem helping you find one. i like joann's fabrics best...

Bobbins come in two main sizes.  They are not interchangeable.  You will need to take one from your machine when you purchase new ones.  You can get them at any fabric store, i.e., JoAnn Fabrics.  I think I've even seen them at WalMart.

Bobbin cases?  Do you mean the bobbin itself, the item that the thread is wound on to?  If you do, then no, they are not all the same.  If you need bobbins, take one you currently have with you to a craft or fabric store where they sell sewing notions, or to a sewing machine shop.  Some are interchangeable, but they are not universal by any means.
