Question:

Sewing question: I'm trying to use a friend's Singer Touch n Sew machine vintage 1969.

When I try to the bobbin the thread just swirls around the top of the bobbin and gets tangled up. I tried using an already threaded bobbin and the same thing happens. I get the upper and lower threads to connect and then as soon as I start to sew I get a big tangle. What's going on?

  1. There's a reason why they were sometimes called Touch and Swear or Throw and Sews...  ;-)

Give it a good cleaning and oiling per the manual, and then thread carefully, manual in hand. Make sure you thread the upper tension with the presser foot up Make sure you've got the correct bobbin for the machine.

  2. Hard to tell really...However we had ancient Singer machines when we were kids..

After they were oiled and cleaned and repaired by a mechanic /technician they would start to work-again- like magic.

    cheers.

(a good oil-&- clean & minor adjustment may be needed )?

  3. Try putting the bobbin in the other way round, put the thread through the little slit.
