Sewing question: i'm making a purse and don't know how to sew on the buckles! ?

i am making a hollister/abercrombie inspired tote for school and don't know how to get the buckles that the handles are tied to on my bag (look at the pic, thanks)

  1. Can't see a whole lot of detail from the picture since the purse is so dark, but it looks like what you are calling the buckles are actually Rivers...you will need a Rivet punch to add them on.  You can find it in any craft/sewing store

OK, from what i can see from the picture those silver rings are called grommets.  You can find them at most craft/fabric stores.  They come in 2 pieces and are "squeezed" or "hammered" into place.  Its kind of hard to explain.. Check at you local store and most grommet kits will come with great instructions.

  3. To fit those metal grommets, you will need to cut the holes the right size in the right place, hammer the grommets in, and then thread the handles through the holes.

    You might like to use plastic ones instead, and get some jazzy colour:

    Most grommet sets come with a cutting tool of the right size, and a base for hammering them in.
