Question:

Sewing your own Jeans?

Hello, my name is Rebecca. My mother just taught me how to sew a few days ago, and I am interested in sewing my own custom-made jeans. I need a website that can help me to figure out how to do this. I mean like a step-by-step guide, because I'm a beginner and have never sewed jeans... It would be much appreciated. If you could just copy and paste a few lines from one of the websites, and cite your information, I'll give the person with the best answer 10 points. Thank you!

  1. Jeans are actually fairly complex garments, but doable if you can sew accurately and have patience.  I'd suggest one of the jeans patterns from Kwiksew -- they're well drafted and the instructions are thorough.  Illustrations can look fairly dorky, but the patterns themselves are very good.

Try KS 3315 or  3193;  make sure you practice flat felled seams  thoroughly before you start.

  2. I would do as my sister does and take an old pair of jeans and pull them apart at the seams. Then you can see how to cut the sections. Also you can fit them first and decide what you would like to change then estimate by how much and then you would have jeans that should fit you and be what you like.
