s*x Pistols not to be a part of London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony
It has recently been made public according to some sources that the popular punk rock band by the name of s*x Pistols has refused to accept an invitation by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games asking them to perform at the closing ceremony
of the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
The closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games is scheduled to take place on August 12th which will showcase a music gig by the name of A Symphony of British Music. The LOCOG had been interested in wooing the punk rock icon into becoming a part of the
musical sequence by performing at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.
The theme of the musical gig at the closing ceremony is the different eras that the British pop music has gone through its history. The punk rock band s*x Pistols was selected by LOCOG to represent the punk movement that took place in the 1970s.
According to the rules laid down by LOCOG, the artists that will be participating in the closing as well as the opening ceremony, which will take place on July 27th, will not be receiving any monetary compensation apart from an insignificant fee of £1.
Not only that, the LOCOG has sold off the recording rights at both the opening as well as the closing ceremonies to Universal Music. According to the deal done between LOCOG as well as Universal Music, the recording company will also be providing its services
by compiling the musical albums.
Apart from the s*x Pistols, the other bands that would potentially accept the invitation to be performing at the London 2012 Olympic Games include Adele, Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, the Rolling Stones and the Spice Girls.
Ronnie Wood, the guitarist of the Rolling Stones, shared his views on the matter in the following words, “It's like working out for the Olympics or something. You've got to go into training. So we're going to go into training.”
The performing band at the ceremonies would be viewed by an estimated amount of 750 million people watching on the television.
