a relative of mine developed and worked on a project that was highly praised. A man was hired to work with her. She trained him and aggressively included him in the project. Recently he has been promoted to the position above her. She is going to quit, but I feel she should fight it.

Does anyone have suggestions of where I can get information on fighting this.

  1. Oh grow up.  There could be many reasons other than s*x-discrimination for that man being promoted over her.

  2. I hate to say this but people are promoted not just for understanding the project but for the following reasons:

    1. Inter-personal skills required to collaborate in others in future

         progress with the same project.

    2.   Ability to make graphic presentations (artistry, quick graphs etc)

    3.   Personal appearance

    4.   Charisma (ability to impress superiors)

    5.   Scholastic qualifications. (the man that was promoted may have

a master's or higher degree than his teacher had.

I'm not guessing that all or any of the above applied in your friend's case. All I'm saying is that there are hundreds of cases where the genius in the lab is the brain behind the project and the young student he teaches gets the promotion because he can impress those guys in the blue suits around the board room table.

I'll give you one example that you have seen with your very eyes.

Remember those wonderful inspirational speeches that rivited the attention of millions when President Reagan spoke to the nation?

Well he never write ONE WORD of the, Those magic words that spread hope and trust to us were written by a clever young guy whose face you never saw and who was never promoted to a judge or senator. He just got his pay (about $100,000 a year) and sat at his desk doing what he did best which was writing great speeches.

Hope this helps ease the pain for you and your friend.

  3. Maybe it's possible that the man was promoted over her because his performance was better????  just a thought.

What makes you think it was based on s*x-discrimination?

  4. Labor relations board in your state.
