Sexual Harassment at Work~ ?

My mom is the assistant to a vice president at a private college. She took her lunch break today and came back and her boss asked her if she got laid on her lunch break. Well, yesterday her boss called her a s**t several times and said that my mom was sleeping around too much. Maybe my mom does maybe she doesn't but it really doesn't matter because this isn't something that should come up at work. How do I go about getting information on something like this. I'm not sure if its sexual harassment or what sort of classification it is. Do you know what it is?

  1. OMG THIS IS SO SERIOUS SUE HIM. PRESS CHARGES. CALL A LAWYER IMMEDIATELY. WOW THIS IS HORRIBLE

  2. Yes this is sexual harassment. She should keep a record of all of the incidents with the date and time and what was said (to the best of her recollection). If she can get the witness to sign a statement and have it notarized that will help as well. Take all of this to the human resources at the university and present it to them. They have to confront her boss and tell her to stop. If it still continues or other retaliatory action is taken after she makes the complaint then she has a case for a lawsuit. You have to provide the employer the opportunity to intervene before you can claim sexual harassment. Her boss is creating a hostile work environment and if her employer does not intervene once they have been made aware then they are liable.

  3. It sounds like sexual harassment to me, but if you want to pursue it, check with a lawyer. If no one else heard the comments it will be hard to prove.

  4. First of all, thanks for sharing such a situation.

Yes, even if your mom's boss is a woman, this is a case of Sexual Harassment as well as personal harassment.

As a first step, ask you mom to get an audio recording, if and when her boos repeat it. Better still, if you can stack her with a button camera, record the video secretly. Finally, if possible, your mom, can try and excite her boss to use those similar words in the presence of other people, who can stand by to what they heard later.

With that your mom should approach the HR and internal Anti SH team.

As home work, you mom can also refer the the SH policy, which should be part of the employee handbook.

Get that "boss" out in open. All the best!

  5. Have your mom call me.  lol

Seriously, yes, it sounds like the man is over the top.  The first step, in my opinion is to have a conversation with human resources.
