It is not obvious that the answer is "yes" otherwise how to justify g*y people being politically conservative or social leaders of the poor and hopeless which ironically coincides with the wide spectrum the Catholic Church covers.

  1. The verdict is still out on the political side, but as far as the social, I agree.

I had to get comfort and reassurance from my family and friends before I  could accept the fact that I have a girlfriend.

No one sets out to be a social outcast, I should hope not at least, but there are certain issues that aren't understood and deemed "Unconservative"

  2. there's nothing obvious in life, except to those not looking.

the answer, in my opinion, is that is that people have political views about things which concern them. social adaptability is a function of being able to survive. so those with more difficulty surviving adapt more. those who have concerns become involved with life in order to address those concerns.

no one has to 'justify' 'g*y people' being politically conservative. (i know precious few friends who are g*y who would be cataloged as conservative in any political or socio-economic sense ot the term.)

as far as the 'wide spectrum' of the catholic church - it's on paper and in charities; but the political institution doesn't follow it's own heart. in my opinion.

  3. political views are made by people.  they represent what some people consider right according to their beliefs and other social factors, i would not bother with those that choose a political view just because it suits them.  a healthy political  view  conservative or whatever should at least be open to new ideas (once those ideas prove they are to the benefit of the people). i do not believe that political views should be unchangeable dogmas like religions(?). the question is what a political view really represents and serves.  if a political view doesn't take any improvement maybe that's a good reason to change it if it does maybe that's a good reason to change with it

  4. That depends on too many factors for a simple answer.

I am, at my core, a libertarian politically.  This means that, politically, I think you have the right to do what ever you want to do so long as it doesn't deny or take away another persons right to do the same.

To a conservative I might sound like a left wing freak if the subject is illegal drug use or g*y marriage.

    On the other hand.

To a liberal I might sound like a right wing nut job if the subject is tax policy or global warming.

As a practical matter, it has become very clear to me that one vote does not matter to the major parties, so I don't vote for them at the state and national level.  At the local level, g*y politics is almost never a serious issue...it usually comes down to money and development planning and in my area that means I vote R.

  5. Personally I don't think you can specifically point the finger at a person's sexuality as the cause for this change.  However, thanks to the fact that we live in a society where homosexuality is considered such a 'big deal' in both positive and negative ways, when it's truly no more big a deal than hair color or race, experiences that are changed or affected by the fact of our sexuality can definitely change our viewpoints on life and culture and politics.  But there's also another factor.  The shrinking stigma that has attached itself to homosexuality for so long has finally lost it's icy grip in a lot of ways.  Some homosexuals get to live fairly normal lives, and end up not feeling as oppressed by conservatives and less likely to link them to their problems.  This makes them less likely to be liberals as they have no personal vendetta against conservatives.  So I guess to summarize- it's not that a person's views are affected by their sexuality, it's that a person's views are affected by their experience- which IS affected by their sexuality.
