Sexually Abused, How Can I Help?

My friend was sexually abused when she was young, she told me what happened, and she cant remember apart from feeling wierd and different that day. I know she trusts me, but what advice can i give her?im already patient with her and told her im always there for her.How can i help her feel better or give good advice?

  1. I wouldn't suggest giving advice. Being violated like that has life long effects and someone who hasn't been through that themselves couldn't possibly understand. The best thing you can do, is listen. Let her talk to you about whatever is on her mind, do your best to be emotionally supportive and only give advice when and if she asks for it.

    If the experience is effecting her life in an extremely negative way, suggest she seek therapy.  


  2. Just allow her to talk if she wants to about this issue. Alot of us who have been abused tend to have repressed memories of the abuse. And flashbacks from sounds, smells  and places, etc... Be her friend by letting her know she is safe with you. That she can trust you... Hopfully she is not a case such as I who was abused by many... And memories are always flashing back.
