I just want to ask about my current condition, when I took my medical and laboratory exam they find out that my SGPT is very high the require iu/l was till 35 iu/l only but my SGPT reach 75 iu/L. just wanna ask if my condition is almost fatal? hehehe.. But just wondering, While i'm searching about SGPT iI Found out that the cause of very high SGPT was due to, too much drinking of alcohol! but i dont even drink any alcohol since 2006? but the doctor told me that I got it from too much eating of Fatty and Oily Foods.. is he right? I am looking forward for any answer.... thank You....

  1. Your lab is a bit behind the times still calling the test SGPT -- it's more commonly known as ALT (ALanine Aminotransferase) now, so if you look up ALT, you might find more info.

Anyway, an ALT of 75 is nowhere near "very high".  For example, someone with viral hepatitis might have a level in the thousands.  So no, you are not going to die of an ALT of 75.

One of the most common causes of non-alcohol-related elevations of ALT and AST (formerly known as SGOT) is NASH -- non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.  It's caused by fatty changes in the liver, often related to obesity and/or over-consumption of fatty foods.  So your doctor may be suspecting NASH.

Anyway, I'm sure your doctor will arrange further tests (like an ultrasound and/or repeating the blood test in the future) if needed.

    Good health.
