Shaaban Hussin blames fatigue for his poor end in the Malaysian Open – Golf News
Shaaban Hussin, the only Malaysian to make the cut in the Maybank Malaysian Open, has blamed a hectic schedule for his below par performance in the final round at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Hussin carded a one-over par 73 on Sunday and shared the 57th position to earn US$7,250 (RM 22,183) as consolation prize money.
“I was close to tears after finishing my round, as I felt that I was a letdown as the sole Malaysian in the Malaysian Open,” he said. “Also, it was my best chance to get more money and improve my Asian Tour rankings”.
He said that his physical strength did not help him in the last two rounds. Moreover, the same problem was responsible for his poor performances in the last three tournaments he played.
According to him, the tight schedule did not allow him to go to the gym as he moved from Cambodia to Perak and then Singapore before coming to participate in the Malaysian Open.
Therefore, he had to miss the gym sessions, which, in turn, caused him troubles in the tournaments he played.
"I did well in the first two rounds of all the tournaments, only to lose out in the second two rounds because of fatigue. That is one area I will have to work on further," he said.
Hussin said that he entered the field of the Malaysian Open with a boosted morale as he had a good finish in the Perak PGM-Clearwater Classic, where he stood second followed by a joint 13th in the Singapore Open.
He also admitted that many Malaysian players prefer to play on the local tour. According to him, the Malaysians can earn a handsome amount of money through tournaments on the local tour.
On the other hand, it becomes difficult for them to make the cut most of the times on the Asian Tour, causing them to return empty handed.
However, he thinks with a totally different frame of mind. He believes that he can earn even more after playing and getting experience against the top rated players from all over the world.
He will now move to Jakarta in order to participate in the Indonesian Masters at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club, starting on Thursday.
