Shaaban Hussin insists to fight with injury setback to secure his Asian Tour card
Despite struggling with his shoulder injury, Shaaban Hussin of Malaysia is upbeat about the chances of securing his Asian Tour card for the upcoming season, by recording a solid finish at this week’s Iskandar Johor Open.
Hussin knows that the injury may cause him serious troubles while playing shots on the course. However, the Malaysian star insists to play through the pain barrier, at the US$2 million event, starting on Thursday, December 13, 2012.
The tournament will be played at the prestigious Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, the final destination of this year’s Asian Tour roster.
A number of players will be contending against each other to make a final move to secure their cards for the 2013 Asian Tour season, by making it into the top-60 in the Order of Merit.
Hussin, who currently holds the 79th position in the money list, is confident to record a strong finish this week.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he will not take the pressure of contending against some of the best players, who have confirmed to participate in the event.
According to the golf commentators, the Malaysian star certainly has the potential to secure his full-time playing rights for the second time in his career – he had full-time Asian Tour card in 2010.
“I had full playing rights previously and that was wonderful. I hope I can reprise those memories and do well here. If I can get inside the top-60, it will be great for my career because I will qualify for all the big Asian Tour events,” Hussin said.
He also revealed that he went to see a doctor last week, who advised him to take rest, in a bid to heal the injury that he suffered during the Hero Indian Open.
“I went to see the doctor this week and he asked me to rest but I told him I can’t. That’s how important it is for me. I injured my shoulder in India and it hasn’t recovered since then. I know I should really think about resting but there’s just too much
on the line,” he explained.
