Shabra Charity keen to conquer Galway
Having learnt some handy lessons from her previous two failed Galway ventures, the Patrick O. Brady trained chestnut mare, Shabra Charity, is now h**l-bent to make a big mark at the venue that some sport experts consider invincible for her.
The City Publicans Charity Hurdle, which is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, will be an acid test of the maverick mare’s capabilities. Conquering Galway will be her main objective when she runs over 2 miles and 4 furlongs alongside four rivals.
The course condition is soft following the last night’s downpours. She has experienced such sort of surfaces for multiple times in her 36-race career.
Shabra Charity has three victories to her credit. Since June 2012, she has been in good rhythm. On June 5, she elegantly won the Fashion On The Field Beginners Chase at Downpatrick.
The daughter of Rudimentary out of Leighlinbridge stood third against half a dozen rivals in the Grant Thornton Novice Chase that went down at Limerick on July 26. She repeated the same in the Guinness Sligo Handicap Hurdle.
In between these two races, the skilled sprinter ran Latin Quarter Chase at Galway and finished as down as 7th.
The Shabra Charity Club owned mare nicely grabbed a terrific victory by outplaying a dozen of competitors in the Hackett's Bookmakers Handicap Chase that was held at Kilbeggan on August 11.
In the first week of the calendar month, Shabra Charity finished 5th in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Hurdle.
These stats reveal that the Irish mare has plenty of talent under her belt. She will surely apply all of it to register a success at Galway.
Doctor Pat is the only rival who will challenge her in the race. The E. Bolger trained bay gelding nicely achieved a fantastic triumph in the 16-runner event of Sean Sheehy & The Clancy Group Open 4yo+ Geldings (Banks), held at Athlacca on May 12. That was
his second last outing.
The veteran horse is returning to action after a long interval of almost three months. The drills, he went through during this period, might have increased his stamina greatly.
So let us be ready to enjoy the rip-roaring battle. Good luck to the duo.
