England batsman Owais Shah has revealed that he will be leaving Middlesex at the end of this county season.
Middlesex have said that they will not renew the player's contract with the county because they are looking to bring in fresher and younger faces. Shah says he is disappointed by the county's lack of faith but will search for a new home.
Director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "The team needs freshening up if the fortunes of the young side are to improve. Owais has given total commitment to Middlesex in 2010 but I feel a change will be good for him and the club."
Shah still has a number of quality skills that would make him an important and productive player for another county side. There are bound to be a high number of clubs putting bids on the table to sign him.
A quality player
Shah is a quality top-order batsman that has only been held back in his career by a little bit of inconsistency. He proved he was good enough to break into the England team but was never quite able to produce the goods at the highest level of the game.
Shah is now most likely to finish his playing career as a county player. He will know the ins and the outs of county cricket life and this should make it very easy for him to settle in at a new club. He will have virtually the entire winter to pick his next move because he won't feature in England's plans.
He is only 31-years-old and will feel as though he still has four or five years left in the top-flight game. However, he needs to make his decision carefully because this next move could be the final one of his playing career.
Fraser added: "Saying goodbye to a player who has represented your club with distinction for such a long period of time is very hard. I have always been extremely fond of Owais, who began to emerge as a player of exceptional talent as my playing career reached its conclusion."
Betting advice
Watch carefully for the county that signs Shah because he will add some real quality to their top order for next season. He has the ability to make big hundreds in any form of the game, which makes him ideal to back at any level and at any time.
