Shahar Peer beats Pauline Parmentier in the 2nd round – Western & Southern Open 2011
Israeli Shahar Peer won in straight sets of a 6-2, 6-3 victory against French Pauline Parmentier at the Western and Southern Open 2011 during the second round of the event. This was the second meeting of the two in their professional
career on the hard courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
World number 24 Peer opened the set with wobbly hands and committed 2 foot faults and smashed an ace, while her French opponent had struck only one net ball.
Peer was a stronger player and had a good accuracy as she managed to save a hundred percent of her break points along with, hitting a walloping 64% of her serves on target.
Peer won most of the games on her serve and attained 21 out of 33 points, making it a 64% win in her total service points in the set, as compared to her opponent’s, who had a pitiable response towards her serve and hence, only
attained 36% of her total return points.
The Israeli (Peer) not only had a strong serve but an amazing return, by placing well placed shots and making less unforced errors, she was able to bag a commendable 55% of her total return points.
Israeli Peer gained another edge by breaking her opponent twice, and therefore, accomplished to clench t he set with a 60% win of total set points.
The crowd had boosted the Israeli’s performance and she saw a quick victory in the first set, eventually Peered bagged the second set as the tone had already been set.
24-year-old Peer had eased a bit by the second set and was able to target only 55% of her first serves. However, she was able to clench points in her first and second serves which won her a total of 61% of her service points in
the set. While, Parmentier again was unable to put up a good response against her opponent and eventually lost most of her points, winning only 39% of her total returns.
On the contrary, the French had a weaker serve and due to numerous unforced errors and four double faults she lost most of her points, attaining only a 44% win of her total service points. Peer, took advantage of her opponent’s
poor performance in her serve and replied back with a strong back hand that won her an above average 56% of her total return points.
Peer bagged the set by breaking her opponent’s serve 3 thrice and by accomplishing 58% win in the total set points, which were a grand 11 points more.
