Shahar Peer diffuses Sabine Lisicki in 1st round – Western & Southern Open 2011
Shahar Peer scattered the power game of Sabine Lisicki in 1 hour, 34 minutes, and 44 seconds at the Western and Southern Open 2011. Shahar Peer won the match in straight sets of 6-4, 7-6(4) on the hard of the Lindner Tennis Center
in Mason, Ohio.
The 24-year-old Israeli (Peer) did not let Lisicki to set her rhythm and was dominant over her, she won an average 55% of her total service points with the aid of her strong forearm and ground strokes, against her opponent, who
was only able to attain 16 of 34 points making it an average 47% of her total service points.
Peer had managed to score more 53% in her total return points, even though; both the players had an average return, while, Sanchez had only mustered 45%.
Peer saved 50% of her break points with a sturdy defence that did not falter, and instead broke her opponent thrice which gave her a competitive edge over her German rival, as she was only able to save 4 out of the 7 break points
and won only 50% of break points.
By accomplishing 54% of her total set score, she powered through the first set, and also set the tone for the second. This time she had taken a notch higher in her serve and managed to attain an excellent 57% win in her total service
points. By utilizing her forearm and grinding all her shots towards the baselines, she was capable of bagging 50% of her total service points.
Against the Isralei’s big serves and ground strokes Lisicki was unable to score many points on her return serve and hence only mustered 43% of her total return points Mean while, Peer was completely dominant and was able to set
her rhythm, winning 50% of her total return points.
Peer was able to save the 4 break points out of the seven on her serve; she was able to break her opponent thrice. Hence, gaining an upper hand and by accomplishing 48 out of 90 points, making it a 53% win in the total set points,
she hacked the set away from her opponent securing a deftly 7-4 win in the tie break and was able to secure a position in the second round of the event.
Following her victory Peer was ecstatic and said, "I was playing very solid and very smart until a set and 5-0, then I just stopped moving and was making errors from nowhere, I could have been in the locker room half an hour before,
but at least I won the match and will improve on things for the next one".
Shahar Peer is a right handed player who turned pro in 2004 and is currently ranked as world number 24, and this year she has won 18 matches out of the 34 that she has contested in.
