Shahar Peer gets the best of Anastasiya Yakimova in the 1st round – Texas Open 2011
The match was set and the two players met each other for the first time at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas on hard courts. It was an easy victory for the Israeli, Shahar Peer against her 24-year-old Belarusian opponent
Anastasiya Yakimova during the first round of the Texas Tennis Open 2011. Finishing the match in 75 minutes Peer won 6-1, 6-3.
Commencing the first set, neither of the player’s accuracy faltered and they both had pin point accuracy.
Yakimova had won the toss and serving first managed to hit 69% of her first serves on target but because of an average win in both the first and second serve, her points only amassed to 8/16, making it a 50% win in her total service
points. While, Peer had bagged 60% win in her second return giving a statistical edge in the total return points, hence, winning 50% of her total returns.
The Belarusian’s return serve was extremely poor and she was unable to rally it out with her opponent, hence she was only able to bag a pitiable 31% of her total return points against Peer, who had a wonderful display of unstoppable
shots aimed at her opponent enabling her to achieve 18 out of 26, making it a commendable 69% of her total service points won.
Peer was a stronger player as she did not setup a single break point opening for her Belarusian opponent and instead capitalised on a hundred percent of her break points won, whereas, Yakomova was unable to win or save any of her
break points.
Pouncing at every opportunity Peer got, she was able to get an upper hand against her opponent and won the set by accomplishing a commendable 62% of her total set points.
Following her beating in the first set Yakimova hadn’t learnt her lesson and although, Yakimova played better in the second she was unable to produce the numbers and had a poor return that resulted in her loosing the second set.
Although, neither of the players had smashed an ace, both had a weakened accuracy and committed double faults but Peer had struck only one line fault whereas, Yakimova had executed 2 net balls and one foot fault.
It was a commendable play from both the players, as they both had targeted their first serves to be an above average but Peer won an 86% of her first serves which alleviated her total service points to 73% win and hence, took the
edge she required.
Israeli Peer had an average return and did not let her opponent break her serve even once in the entire set and instead, broke her opponent twice. By accomplishing 56% of her total service points and by a good 8 point difference,
she was able to bag the set with little effort.
The 24-year-old Israeli will now be facing Swede Johanna Larsson in the second round of the Texas Tennis Open 2011.
