Shahar Peer looks to turn around her luck at Shenzhen Longgang Gemdale Open 2013 – Tennis News
Struggling Shahar Peer of Israel will look to fight back to make a way into the limelight in 2013. She will begin the campaign at the Shenzhen Loggang Gemdale Open 2013 that is scheduled to commence from 29th December.
The 74th ranked Israeli professional was ranked world number 11 in April, last year. However, she stumbled apart quite miserably in the current season and couldn’t back-up a relatively successful season with another
startling show.
It was terrible year for the 25-year-old who registered just 16 wins in her 41 matches this season. She didn’t have a very impressive season in 2011 as well; just 26 wins from 48 matches. These two years have been a rollercoaster
ride for the Israeli superstar who was considered to be one of the biggest threats to the top seed players in 2010.
She started at the Brisbane International in 2012; lost the opening round match. She went to Hobart and reached the semi-final of the tournament but didn’t defeat any high-quality player on her way. The Australian Open yielded
just one victory for her and the disappointment continued in the Open GDF Suez as well. She reached the third round at the Qatar Ladies Open and lasted just two rounds at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.
The terrible show continued at Indian Wells, Miami, Barcelona, Fes Budapest, Madrid, Rome, Strasbourg and the French Open. She just won six matches in these tournaments and her bad luck continued until the end of the season.
Peer lost in the opening round of Wimbledon, Olympics, Rogers Cup, Cincinnati, New Haven and the US Open. It was definitely one of the worst seasons of her career. She never fell below the figure of 26 wins in her entire career
since 2004 except in 2012.
Every year brings something different for a player. Maybe after a difficult patch of two years, the 25-year-old Peer will gather some momentum at China and build on it to cruise back into the elite category of Top-20. First priority
for her is to win matches in succession that will help her gain confidence and momentum.
