Shahar Zubari of Israel dominates RS:X Class on Day 1 of 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta – Sailing News
Israeli sailors dominated the RS:X Class of the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta at Medemblik in Nederland as they cruised into the top podium finishes in the first day proceedings. Israel’s Shahar Zubari was able to clinch the leading position in the standings
with four points after setting sail in three races.
The regatta has started brilliantly with some outstanding wind conditions where the windsurfers give their best and take advantage of the weather. The Israeli participants have occupied the regatta standings from the beginning and it seems that the pair
will keep the lead for a while.
The opening race of the regatta was Zubari show as he cruised into the lead and was able to finish on top of the fleet. The second race finished the same way featuring Zubari on the leading podium spot followed by France’s le COQ Pierre.
Zubari failed to improvise in the third race and tumbled down to number two spot to end the first day proceedings on the top position with four points.
Speaking to the local media after the first day, Zubari said that the Israeli league appointed four contests for the Olympic qualification last year and Medemblik is the last one. That's why they are here. He added that he still has a chance, but he also
depends on the results of his rival.
The second day of the regatta will start with Zubari in the leading podium place.
