The former one-day skipper of the Pakistan national team, Shahid Afridi is quiet content with his performance in the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament, playing for the English County side Hampshire in England.
Afridi, who was earlier supposed to leave the side after the conclusion of the tournament to take part in the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL), is now aiming to continue his tenure with Hampshire after the postponement of SLPL until 2012.
Even before a formal announcement was made regarding the delay in the organization of the Sri Lankan league, rumours had erupted, suggesting a possible dropping of foreign players from the T20 league because of financial issues.
Many Pakistani cricketers were hoping to take part in the extravaganza after being ignored by the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year.
Speaking on the matter, the 31-year-old Afridi said, “Although I have not received an official message, I am getting hints about the SLPL’s decision to exclude foreign players. If this happens I will extend my county stint at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789. I’ve received an
offer to feature in their one-day campaign as well.”
The hard-hitting batsman retired from international cricket in May, 2011 after he was deposed as the captain of the national team because of developing estranged relations with the team management during the tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, where Afridi led the
team in a five-match one-day series.
