United Nations, an international organization committed to the betterment of human kind, has appointed the flamboyant cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Shahid “BOOM BOOM” Afridi, as their goodwill ambassador for the UN Office for Drugs
and Crime (UNODC), for a period of two years.
UN took this step show their gratitude towards the cricketer, who has served the game for almost 16 years now and tends to attract fans wherever he goes. Jeremy Douglas, an official of UNODC, confirmed the news and also disclosed
the reason of choosing Afridi for the role.
Douglas said, “He plays from the heart. Shahid Afridi is a role model who can speak powerfully against drug abuse. Young people see in him the courage to push boundaries and the will to go on when things get tough.”
Afridi was overwhelmed by the honour of representing UN. The heartthrob of millions of fans across the globe is determined to perform his duty with full devotion. The all-rounder condemns drug use and believes such tribulations
are causing harm to society.
The 31-year-old cricketer said, “I have never done anything halfway and will give my all to my new role. I hate to see drugs ruin the lives of young people. If I can convince even one boy or girl to shirk the habit, I will be proud
[of myself].”
The leg-spinner, during his two year tenure as goodwill ambassador for UN, will take part in various expeditions within the country to promote healthy living, while raising awareness in youngsters against the evil of drugs.
Mr. Boom Boom is arguably one of the most successful all-rounder Pakistan cricket has produced in limited over cricket. The hard-hitting batsman has scored 6893 runs at an average of 23.68 in ODI and has 333 wickets to his name.
Afridi is currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where he is participating in a domestic competition, the Big Bash Twenty20 league, representing Melbourne Renegades Squad. The cricketer will soon return home after meeting his obligations with
the club.
