http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sahibzada-Mohammad-Shahid-Khan-Afridi-c87933 cleared to play the Sri Lankan Premier League – Cricket News Update
According to sources, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has cleared Shahid Afridi to play in the upcoming Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL), expected to take place this month.
Talking on the matter, an official of the PCB said, “We gave these permissions and clearance for the players including Afridi sometime back. But now when he individually also applies for a no-objection certificate or the Sri Lankan organizers reconfirm his
availability we see no problem in giving him clearance."
The same source revealed that the PCB had given clearance to 10 players so far to take part in the Lankan League, and according to him, there were more applications still pending with the cricket board as there are many Pakistani players eager to take part
in the Sri Lankan extravaganza.
“So far we have given around 10 clearances and they are some seven pending but they are issues over paper work and availability and we don't think more than 12 Pakistani players will play in the league," the source revealed.
Currently the 31-year-old Afridi is featuring in the Friends Life T20 tournament being held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789.
However, it was not an easy task for the all-rounder to make his participation possible in the event as the PCB revoked his No Objection Certificate (NOC) after he announced his retirement from international cricket in May.
Afridi, in an interview, verbally bulldozed the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, for ruining cricket in the country. These statements did not go down well with Butt as he terminated the cricketer’s central contract.
However, Afridi, declined to back down and opted to take the board to court in order redeem his NOC; mandatory for his participation in the English county and the Sri Lankan event.
The matter was resolved outside court after the intervention of Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik, who convinced the flamboyant all-rounder to appear before PCB’s disciplinary committee which slapped a fine of Rs 4.5 million on the cricketer for
violating the code of conduct, which prohibits the players from speaking to the media without the consent of the cricket board. After his appearance before the committee, Afridi’s NOCs were reinstated.
Meanwhile, the SLPL is also in doubt after the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket will
not be held responsible if there are any financial issues regarding the payments of the players.
However, Sri Lanka Cricket has rubbished such concerns and has assured the BCCI that the event has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625), putting it legally under the jurisdiction of the SLC.
Apart from Pakistani players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 are also taking part in the cricket league.
