a Group A match of the tournament. He said that the Mega Event would be the last assignment of his career, but he wasn’t able to make it to the playing-11 after his announcement.
After returning to Pakistan, Afridi told reporters, “His (Shoaib's) timing was not right and he should have properly consulted and spoken to us about his decision (to retire). He should have either announced his intention to retire before the start of the
tournament or after it, it made no sense to announce his retirement in the middle of the World Cup.”
Commenting on the future, the Pakistan captain said, “It is time for the selectors to look ahead and I think the coming tour (of the West Indies) is the best chance for them to give exposure to new players. Already we have uncovered good talent in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 who played brilliantly in the semi-final.”
Pakistan performed above expectations in the World Cup but their campaign came to an end after a 29-run defeat against arch-rivals India in the semi-final at Mohali. The Pakistan skipper stressed that the games between the two neighboring countries should
be treated as any other competition, rather than a matter of life and death.
Afridi further said that batting was the main concern for the team and it didn’t click when needed in the all-important clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) to be rested for the series
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, which will be played later this month.
The PCB had already announced a couple of replacements in the squad after the team was knocked out of the Mega Event. Youngster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Farhat-c64218 was named as his replacement.
