http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday told the media that the delay in his departure for West Indies was for personal reasons.
The national team and the management boarded a flight for the Caribbean on Thursday.
"I had some personal work to take care of and that is why I am leaving now," said Afridi at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
The delay in his departure had rung alarm bells. Two very different official explanations have come from the board and team management creating further doubt.
The first explanation said that the 31-year-old had forgotten his passport in Karachi. The other explanation said tAfridi had requested the team management to let him leave later as he wanted to visit his father in Karachi who is sick.
The flamboyant all-rounder did not attend the last day of training camp at Gaddafi stadium raising a lot of eyebrows. However, no explanation for his absence was provided to the media.
Afridi said that he was leaving with a clear mind and hoped to win the series in Caribbean. He also said that he would like to perform with the bat as well.
"I realise that our batting is an area of concern and it is also my responsibility as captain to contribute with the bat,” said the hard-hitting batsman who has been out of form for over a year year. “In the coming series, my main emphasis will be on my batting and I want to score some runs," he added.
