Shahid Afridi feeling no pressure over captaincy role
Pakistan’s one-day captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has said that he is under no pressure of losing his captaincy, and will keep on representing his team as a senior member, even if the selectors decide to sack him from the job.
Afridi returned to Pakistan after the team lost the Twenty20 series against New Zealand 2-1 being played in New Zealand. The veteran all-rounder is not a part of the Test match team and leads the team in the limited over formats.
The World Cup squad is expected to be announced today by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and there are speculations that Afridi may not be retained as the captain of the team for the mega event.
However, Afridi said that there was no pressure on him. He stated, “I have never run after the captaincy in my entire career. It is something for the cricket board to decide. If they feel I am good enough to lead the team in the World Cup they will retain
me if not, that is life.”
The flamboyant all-rounder has been named as the captain for the team which is already in New Zealand playing a Test series. The performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as captain have led to suggestions that he is the best man to lead the side for the mega event.
Apart from the captaincy issues, Afridi said that his primary focus is on the New Zealand series. He stated, “I am taking no pressure over the captaincy. I am a senior pro and I know what I have to do. It is obvious that if we do well in the one-day series
and I also perform as a player it will help me and the team a lot.”
The World Cup will be played in subcontinent whereas the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team is currently playing in totally different conditions. The Pakistani one-day skipper said that whatever the conditions, a series win before the World Cup will boost the confidence of the
team and the players.

Since the PCB has named Afridi as the ODI captain for the New Zealand series, it is likely that the veteran all-rounder will be retained as the captain for the World cup as well, because any last minute changes will affect the team badly and the PCB will
be aware of that.
