Pakistan’s limited overs captain, Shahid Afridi, has finally filed a reply to the show-cause notice given to him by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) for revealing problems with the team management regarding the selection of the playing eleven in the West
Indies.
A source in the PCB confirmed that the board had received Afridi’s reply but refused to give details regarding the content of the letter which has been sent by the flamboyant all-rounder to the cricket board.
However, according to insiders, Afridi has clarified that he did not take any names regarding his statements which he gave after returning home from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. Afridi after had said in the media that there was too much outside interference in the selection
of the team during the five-match one-day series.
Afridi did not take any names, however, it was reported in the press that the skipper was at odds with the head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193. According to insiders, Afridi wanted to give young players a chance to play in the last two matches of the series after Pakistan
had already taken the tournament by winning the first three games but Younis opposed the idea and wanted to retain the winning combination.
The situation is said to have worsened between the two to an extent that Afridi threatened to pull out of the final two games, however, he played in the fixtures which were lost by the tourists giving the hosts something to cheer about.
PCB chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, has promised to resolve the matter after getting a detailed report from the team manager Intikhab Alam to judge whether Younis was interfering in the selection of the team. Alam will submit the report at the conclusion of the West
Indies tour which is set to end on 24 May after the second Test at Basseterre.
Earlier this week, news in the Pakistan media had emerged suggesting the possible sacking of Afridi as the PCB wanted to curb player power in Pakistan cricket. However, yesterday PCB’s special committee expressed support for Afridi and suggested that the
PCB should refrain from taking any harsh decision against the One Day International (ODI) skipper.
The committee has disclosed that it does not deem Afridi guilty of violating any code of conduct by revealing the differences with the team management to the media as he did not take any names in his interview.
The special committee headed by Mir Haider Talpur, Major http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-c78451, Amir Nawab and Chaudary Anwar, said, “Afridi is doing a fine job as captain and sidelining him or removing him may affect team combination.”
