Shahid Afridi gets support from Pakistan Cricket Board’s Special Committee
In the latest developments regarding the debacle between Pakistan limited over’s captain Shahid Afridi and head coach Waqar Younis, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) special committee will now make use of the powers vested in it to resolve the matter peacefully.
According to sources the special committee has expressed support in favour of the One-Day skipper and insisted that according to the members of the committee, the flamboyant Afridi had not broken any code of conduct by giving a statement which revealed the
growing tensions that were developing between him and Waqar, in the recently concluded One-Day series in the Caribbean.
“We have reviewed Afridi’s comments. The statements made are not that serious and strict action cannot be taken against him. He didn’t take any names and just gave general remarks, which he does often,” said the committee members.
The committee is headed by Mir Haider Talpur, Major http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-c78451, Amir Nawab and Chaudary Anwar.
According to insiders the committee has advised the chairman PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482.
According to local media earlier, the PCB was considering sacking Afridi. The committee has warned the PCB about taking such decision as it believes that sidelining Afridi will jeopardize http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s form in future tournaments.
Talking on the matter, a member of the committee said, “Afridi is doing a fine job as captain and sidelining him or removing him may affect team combination.”
The committee members have however, clarified that they will also take the view point of the coach Waqar Younis regarding the whole issue.
Earlier this week, after returning home from the Caribbean on the conclusion of the One Day International (ODI) series, Afridi had said that there was too much interference in team selection.
His statement came after there were credible reports in the Pakistani media that the Pakistan skipper and coach were at odds over the selection of the playing XI in the last two matches of the five-match ODI series.
According to insiders, Afridi wanted to give all the young players a chance to test their mettle but Waqar opposed the idea which basically became the bone of contention between the coach and skipper.
