Shahid Afridi has shown signs of improvement, says Iqbal Qasim – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy 2013 and claimed that a mixture and senior and young players will be selected for the mega event.
The all-important tournament is going to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in June and the PCB has announced a preliminary squad but is yet to announce the final team for the competition.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, who was dropped from the One Day International (ODI) squad for the tour of India earlier this year, made a comeback to the national team in the recently-concluded series against South Africa. The all-rounder played a couple of blistering knocks
in the series but failed to make an impression with the ball.
The chief selector, while speaking to a sports channel in the country last night, claimed that the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain bowled better against the Proteas than his figures suggest. The former left-arm spinner is impressed by Afridi’s recent improvement
with the bat as well as with the ball.
Qasim said, “We have selected the best available players for the Champions Trophy. Afridi's figures in South Africa didn't do justice to his bowling. He bowled way better than his figures suggested. He (Afridi) has been trying hard and his batting has shown
signs of improvement. We want a proper mix of youth and experience for the Champions Trophy.”
The chief selector is impressed by the recent performances of Shoaib Malik and said that the cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 has played some brilliant knocks under extreme pressure. Qasim also praised Misbah-ul-Haq’s showings in international and domestic cricket
in the current year.
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 has performed very well since his comeback into the side. He has steered the team in difficult situations,” the chief selector added. “Misbah has led the team excellently and deserves all the due credit. He is in top form at the moment.”
Pakistan are placed in group B of the tournament along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, against whom they will play their opening match on June 7 at the Kennington Oval, London.
