Shahid Afridi hints Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal would play against Zimbabwe – ICC World Cup 2011 news
Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 and Umar Akmal would be part of the playing eleven in their crucial Group A encounter of the ICC World Cup 2011 against Zimbabwe on Monday.
Wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal was below par with the gloves during Pakistan’s 110-run defeat to New Zealand and there have been several calls to drop him from the next game and his younger brother Umar Akmal be given the role behind
the stumps in the game against Zimbabwe.
But Afridi said that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cannot afford experiments in the high-profile tournament.
“Kamran's performance in batting hasn't been bad but, yes, he is struggling with his keeping,” said Afridi. “He is working very hard, and we haven't got such an option in the squad to whom we can give a chance in this tournament.”
He said that Kamran has the support and confidence of the team and the management and the wicketkeeper has been working hard in nets. He further added that the beleaguered keeper knows the mistakes he committed against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and in
the earlier games as well. Afridi was confident the 29-year-old will learn from his mistakes and will perform with both bat and gloves in the remaining part of the World Cup.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595, the only possible replacement behind the stumps in the ongoing World Cup, had his finger hurt during a practice session and there were qualms over his availability for Monday’s game. Afridi confirmed that Umar has recovered from
the minor finger injury and is completely fit to play.
“He (Umar) is fit, it is a light injury. He fielded today and looked better, so definitely he will play tomorrow,” said Afridi.
When asked about the mood in the Pakistan camp, Afridi said that the dressing room atmosphere was positive. He further added that victory always gives confidence to the team so a win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 would prepare the team for the tough
game against defending champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
