Shahid Afridi is still a match-winner, says Misbah-ul-Haq – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, the Pakistan captain, has come out in support of Shahid Afridi and said that the all-rounder is still a match-winner and he still has plenty of cricket left in him. The skipper also made it clear that the selection committee has the final
say when it comes to finalising a squad.
Afridi has been under a lot of criticism because of his lacklustre performances in international cricket over the last 18 months. Boom Boom was dropped from the One Day International (ODI) squad from the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 earlier this year but made a comeback
in the team for the recently-concluded series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
However, the 33-year-old cricketer failed to make an impression with the ball, although he showed glimpses of his old batting form. Afridi has been able to find a place in the 30-man preliminary squad for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy 2013, which is going to
be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in June.
There have been some rumours in media that Misbah does not want Afridi in the team. However, while speaking to a television channel, the Test and the ODI skipper clarified his stance and believes that Afridi is still a match-winner, having the potential
to change the course of a match. The cricketer from Mianwali revealed that he enjoys the support of every single individual in the team.
“Shahid Afridi tries hard and wants to perform for his country. He still has cricket left in him. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 is a match-winner. All the rumours regarding me wanting him out of the team are baseless,” said the Pakistan captain. “A lot of the credit goes
to the players who have always supported me as captain.”
Over the last couple of years, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has done well in international cricket under the captaincy of Misbah but the skipper gives credit to all the senior and junior players in the team.
“The captain is only there because of his team and players. On the ground you as a captain cannot do anything it is all up to the team. When it comes to team selection the final say is always with the selection committee,” he added.
