Pakistani limited-over captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Afirdi has lauded his team’s efforts in securing a seven-wicket victory over West Indies, in the second One Day International, played in St Lucia, on Monday, April 25.
West Indies, while batting first, were restricted to a total of just 220 runs, as they could not stand the strong bowling attack of the visitors.
Afridi said, "We made a plan at our team meeting and our guys stuck to it and that was good."
Pakistan did not provide any chance to their opponents throughout the game. They excelled in all departments including bowing, batting and fielding. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 and Afridi claimed two wickets each, while Hammad Azam picked up
one scalp.
Afridi commented that the bowlers did a great job and there was also considerable improvement in the fielding department. He added that the batsmen gave responsible performances and they are expected to maintain this form in rest of the matches.
Pakistani openers took a stable start and played very sensibly to chase down the total. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Shehzad-c42359 was the top-scorer for his splendid 102 runs off 148 balls, including seven fours and one six. Hafeez also scored a decent 32 runs off 51 balls, with the
help of one boundary and one six. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 scored 43 and 17 runs respectively and remained unbeaten to guide Pakistan home.
Afridi, while speaking about the role Shehzad played in the match, said, "Shehzad is a very talented guy and he showed that he is capable of performing. He took his time, but chasing a small total, he could afford to do that and we won the game.”
On the other hand, Windies’ captain, Darren Sammy said that his batsmen took a good start but they failed to keep wickets in hand. He also asserted that his side lost some key moments, which would have changed the situation for them.
Sammy said that his side will regain their momentum in the next match, as they have to win to stay alive in the series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is now leading the five-match series 2-0 and will play the third ODI against West Indies, at Bridgetown, on April 28.
