Shahid Afridi loses cool and hits a fan – Cricket News Update
Pakistan emerged victorious at the Asia Cup 2012 defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in a closely fought final. The nation was expectedly ecstatic and the jubilant fans were there in numbers to receive the stars at the airports. In such one incident, a fan was beaten up
by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, the Pakistani all-rounder, who arrived in Karachi yesterday, 23rd March 2012.
As soon as he got out of the airport, he was surrounded by hordes of fans who wanted to meet him, get an autograph from the former captain, who had played an important role in Pakistan’s triumph. He looked visibly annoyed and kept urging the fans to give
him space and then in a bout of madness he lost his cool.
After seeing his three-year-old daughter Ajwa hurt, Afridi lost his cool and started lashing out physically on Gul Rehman, a fan who had come to receive the all-rounder. Video footages showed Afridi throwing punches on Gul Rehman and other fans, visibly
upset at the behaviour of those who wanted to catch a glimpse of him.
"Afridi's reaction was natural as dozens of fans circled him and hurt his daughter. I still love him and he is just like my brother," said Gul Rehman, the attacked fan.
Afridi also spoke to the media and said, "There was no security for players and it's usual that fans come and seek autographs but this time they were out of control and hurt my daughter on which I lost my temper."
Being a national hero, Afridi was quick to offer an apology to the people who had come to receive him on his home coming. He said, “I realise I should not have done it.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board and security officials should be careful and provide a safe passage to the national heroes, to avoid an incident like this in the future. It is distasteful and jeopardises the relationship between the fans and their cricketing
heroes.
Earlier, Afridi was adjudged as the man of the match in the final and he was happy that he helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 lift another trophy.
