Pakistan’s former one-day skipper, Shahid Afridi, has reiterated that he will not be taking a u-turn regarding his decision to retire from international cricket, which he announced on May 31, 2011.
Speaking to the press at a local gathering in Karachi, the 31-year-old said, “What I had said earlier stays and I would not backtrack on my words and my decision. Retiring from international cricket does not mean that I would not play cricket. County cricket is also a cricket for me.”
After the flamboyant all-rounder settled matters with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB), which resulted in him being awarded his No Objection Certificate (NOC), it was speculated that the former skipper will mend all outstanding issues with the country’s cricket board and revoke his retirement from international cricket.
However, with his latest remarks in this regard, it is now evident that the hot headed cricketer is not ready to return to international cricket yet.
Earlier, this month, after announcing his retirement he had accused http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, of harming cricket in the country and pledged not to return to international cricket for as long as Butt was in power.
These remarks infuriated the chairman and consequently the PCB decided to terminate the player’s central contract and revoke his NOC, effectively barring him from taking part in any form of cricket outside the country.
Afridi, who had been signed by the English County side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789, was not ready to let go of his NOC and decided to take the PCB to court as he desperately needed the NOC to represent his county side in the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament.
However, on the intervention of Pakistan’s interior minister, Rehman Malik, an out-of-court settlement was reached between the PCB and Afridi, in which Afridi agreed to appear before a disciplinary committee. The committee slapped a fine of 4.5 million rupees on the cricketer, while he was also given the required NOC to carry on his stint with Hampshire.
Afridi is now content with the arrangement and is looking forward to playing for the English county. Speaking on the fine by the disciplinary committee, he said, “PCB disciplinary committee did what it thought right and I would not appeal against the fine they imposed on me,” he said.
