Shahid Afridi not to lead the Pakistani cricket team in future: Ijaz Butt, Chairman of PCB (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board)
Ijaz Butt, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), while talking to the media on Thursday, revealed that the retired skipper, Shahid Afridi, will not captain the national team in future.
The former allrounder was sacked as Pakistan’s limited-overs skipper in May, after leading his side to a 3-2 victory in the five-match One-Day international series against West Indies.
Butt said that it was his constitutional right to name a captain before every series.
According to PCB, Afridi was removed from the position of captaincy for passing weary remarks to the media regarding the team’s head coach, Waqar Younis, stating that the coach unnecessarily interfered in the captain’s matters.
As a result of this step, the big-hitter announced his retirement from international cricket directly to the media without informing any of the board’s officials and gave some indecent statements regarding the board’s official,
especially against Butt.
The World Cup 2011 captain said that he did not want to play for the board, which does not pay respect to their players.
The 31-year-old stated that he would not resume his cricketing career with the Pakistani national team as long as the board is under the chairmanship of Butt.
PCB then issued the show cause notices to the retired cricketer for breaching the clauses of his central contract and asked him to appear before the disciplinary committee of the board to provide an explanation for his remarks.
The board also dissolved his central contract and revoked all the show clause notices issued to him.
Thus, the player was unable to participate in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 Twenty20 tournament.
Afridi then sought help from Singh High Court by filing a petition against the board.
The SHC then ordered the board to suspend their disciplinary committee meeting and asked to provide the details of all the charges against the player.
However, the matter was later resolved after Afridi and Butt conducted a closed door meeting in Islamabad.
The right-handed batsman withdrew his petition from the court and was given NOC by the board to play in the Hampshire tournament.
However, the leg-spinner appeared before the disciplinary committee and pleaded guilty to misconduct and was handed a heavy ban of Rs. 4.5 million.
Butt also unveiled that he was being pressurised from the former provincial governor and former prime minister for giving clearance to Afridi for playing in Hampshire, but he did not pay heed to their orders.
Recently, the PCB has also allowed Afridi to participate in the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
