http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 rejects the offer to play BPL – Cricket News Update
The former Pakistan captain and all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Ali-Khan-c89356 Afridi is likely to reject the lucrative offer of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as the schedule of the cash-rich league collides with Pakistan’s One Day International series against England
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
Afridi was auctioned yesterday for $700,000 and was the most valuable player in the auction, but BOOM BOOM has given top priority to national duty.
Since the arrival of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, the face of cricket has changed massively, as there are international players who prefer playing franchise cricket rather than playing for their country. This is commonly cited as an ill that
will affect international cricket in the future.
However, the all-rounder from Pakistan has made a decision, which should set an example for cricketers all around the world.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket team is currently playing a three-match Test series in the UAE against England, which will be followed by a four-match ODI series. The Green Shirts are leading the three-match series 1-0.
Afridi expressed that playing for Pakistan is his priority and he cannot take part in the league as it clashes with the England series.
BOOM BOOM said, “I won't take part in the BPL. It's clashing with the limited-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the UAE and that's my focus. My preference has always been my national team and I'm looking forward to giving my best against England."
Afridi is thankful to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 cricket authorities and feels honoured to have been sold for such a high price. The former captain added that he would have loved to play the league but only if it had not hurt his international duties.
"I am happy that I've been chosen above many famed cricketers, but I can only think about playing in the league when I don't have national commitments," said Afridi.
Since the last four years, Afridi has become an essential cog for the Green Shirts in ODIs, who rely heavily upon him as an all-rounder that can change the course of the game with his timely contributions.
Afridi will be looking to make an impact in the ODI series against England, and hoping to make his team win the four-match series.
