Shahid Afridi says he is ready to testify in front of the ICC tribunal
Pakistan’s ODI and T20 captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has stated that he is prepared to testify before the ICC tribunal’s hearing of the case against the suspended Pakistani players. Last week, it was revealed that the ICC had asked Afridi and team coach Waqar Younis
to appear in front of the Tribunal during the hearing.
Afridi stated, “I have already said what I had to say and what I saw. I could not have lied before the ICC because they already had enough information about the case. I have a clean conscience. I was asked about Mazhar Majeed [the central figure in the controversy]
and his brother Azhar so whatever I knew I told the ICC."
Three Pakistani players Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt were suspended by the ICC last year in September after spot-fixing accusations were levied on the trio. The allegations were imposed by an English tabloid 'News of the World', during Pakistan’s
tour of England. The two fast bowlers are accused of balling deliberate no-balls as ordered by bookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed. Ex captain Salman Butt, on the other hand, was labeled as the master mind behind the whole incident.
Both Afridi and Younis have already made statements to the ICC on the episode, which occurred during the final Test match of the series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and England, at Lords. Afridi has stated that when he met the players in the hotel room “they looked
guilty.”
Younis’ statement also seemed to go against the players. He has said that Amir’s no-ball greatly surprised him and he confronted the left arm pacer during the break but was interrupted by Salman Butt.
Younis said, “Butt interrupted from across the dressing room, saying: 'I told him to do it because the batsman was coming on the front foot. I told him to come forward and bowl him a bouncer.”
The final hearing of the case is due from 6th to the 11th of January in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986. Butt and Amir’s appeal against the provisional suspension has already been rejected by the ICC.  The prospects of the players winning the case, set
to begin in a couple of days, looks bleak as well.
